Biography

My name is Lou Hall. I have two grown sons, Brian & Lou Jr. whom both live on Marthaís Vineyard. The Vineyard was home for me briefly too, but Iíve always preferred the mountains, and was never able to get comfortable confined to a tiny island. The sea is heaven for lots of people, but Iíll take the great wide-open any day. I've been living in the woods, off the grid, on the NY / VT border for the last 16 years where I make all my own electricity with solar panels and a propane generator. The house is about a half mile from the nearest town maintained road, and about the only man-made sounds I hear throughout the day come from an occasional plane passing overhead, or a train whistle in the distance. On most days, the mountain and valley views from my deck are nothing short of exhilarating, and my cameras always get a good workout.

Areas of Expertise

Land Sales and "Off Grid" Living.

Iíve been in real estate sales since 1992, and opened my own land sales office called
Thunder Mountain Land Sales in 1998. Since then Iíve bought and sold nearly 4,000 acres in The Adirondacks; but I donít just sell the woods, I live in them, so I have a pretty good idea of what makes a piece of land desirable, especially if youíre planning on living on it year-round.

Why I Love the Adirondacks

Itís in my blood I suppose. My mom and dad were both born and raised in Saranac Lake, and I spent a good portion of my life there too. Although I grew up in Altamont, NY, just outside of Albany, we spent many summer vacations visiting grandparents, aunts and uncles. In 1969, I attended North Country Community College in Saranac Lake and after graduation, stayed another seven years before moving to the Glens Falls area. The lakes and mountains of the North Country are something you just canít shake and no matter where my body has ever ended up.  The Adirondacks have never been more than a great memory away.
